Rev. Dr. Michelle Carr Helaire was baptized, raised, and ordained in the A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a member of the New England Conference at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Hartford, Connecticut until she joined the Philadelphia-Baltimore Conference in 1996 through her membership at Alleyne A.M.E. Zion Church in Alexandria, Virginia. She served as a local Christian Education Director for ten years and a District Christian Education Director for two years. Dr. Helaire currently serves as the Youth Minister at Contee A.M. E. Zion Church in Washington, DC.
Dr. Helaire earned her Bachelor degree in Business Administration at University of Hartford; her Masters degree in Religious Studies at Howard University School of Divinity; and her Doctorate degree in Education at Regent University. Prior to becoming co-director, she served as the resident minister for Varick’s Children (VC) under the leadership of Dr. Helen Scott-Carter. Now she is responsible for developing VC’s student curriculum and teacher resources.
Dr. Helaire operates from the philosophy that all children can learn. Her aspiration is to lend her talents so Zion’s children can reach new and unexpected heights.
